Ashley Wagner is all smiles, but an underdog going into the long program.
She says even if she doesn’t get an individual medal, these Olympics have still been rewarding.
“I’ve already been successful with the bronze medal in the team event. Standing on that podium was the coolest moment of my whole life,” Wagner said.
Her reaction to her score during team competition set the internet on fire popping up all over Sochi.
She said she remembers when McKayla Maroney gained internet notoriety for making a similar face.
“I remember when that happened and thinking it was funny because as athletes in the spotlight, it can literally be point two seconds, and that one snapshot can say a lot about a small amount of time,” Wagner said.
Wagner says that apart from her famous face, she already considers her trip to Sochi a success.
“I’ve already been successful with the bronze medal in the team event. For me I think going out into the individual event, it’s a really tall order and there’s a lot of girls gunning for this spot I’d love to be on the podium for that individual event,” she said.
