LAKEVILLE, Mass. (WHDH) -
A 60-year-old plow driver was attacked by another man with a shovel in Lakeville, a crime that has shocked a small neighborhood.
"We’re in a close knit community it's too bad that things get out of hand like that,” said Mike Reilly, a neighbor.
The victim, who neighbors said lives in the neighborhood and volunteers to plow the streets when it snows, was left with a gash above his brow after getting into a confrontation with Douglas Haskell, another resident of the neighborhood.
According to a witness, Haskell was upset at the time of night the victim was plowing and that he may have been dumping snow in his yard.
A shouting match ensued and then Haskell hit the victim with a shovel.
The victim was evaluated by EMS and declined medical attention.
Neighbors said that Haskell’s family just had a baby, but they weren’t surprised that it happened.
According to Marc Dubois, President of the Neighborhood Association, police have shown up at Haskell’s address a few times.
Haskell has been charged with assault and battery. He’s expected to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
