It was another day of digging out across the Commonwealth as the most recent storm left a fresh blanket of snow that measured 3-5″ deep for the Boston area, and throughout much of MetroWest, while a good 6-12″ of wet snow pasted the South Shore and Cape, with Sandwich coming in at 15″. Across Plymouth County and the Cape, power restoration and the clean-up was the theme of the day.
It’ll be cold one tonight as temps fall back to near 10 degrees and wind chills drop to 0, if not below it. Skies do go mainly clear after some patches of evening clouds, and perhaps a flurry near Buzzards Bay and the Cape/Islands.
So the stage is set for another cool day, but bright one on Monday with highs in the upper 20s. Ski conditions are great around all of New England, and the sledding hills are running fast with the recent snows and cold, so hopefully the kids can take advantage of that to kick off school vacation.
How about Tuesday?….. With the cold air in place and another wave of low pressure moving in, we’ll deal with more snow on Tuesday. It’s a quick moving low that approaches from the west, so it won’t have tons of moisture with it, nor will it have strong winds, or coastal concerns to go along with it. What it will have though, is a burst of snow between the 9am-5pm timeframe that drops a widespread, few inches of snow on us. While not a big storm, it’ll be enough to create slick conditions on the road, especially late morning-mid afternoon as the steadiest snow works in. Snow tapers off quickly by dinner time, and then we look forward to some melting starting Wednesday afternoon.
Wednesday, into the weekend, favors temps in the 40s, and perhaps even a 50 on Friday. A passing shower is possible Thursday, a few showers likely Friday, and perhaps a steady rain develops Sunday. That storm on Sunday will transition us back to a colder pattern to end the month of February, so I don’t see this warm-up as an end game for winter.
When it comes to melting the snow later this week, the thaw/refreeze cycle from day to night is what you want to see so we don’t have flooding issues. Additionally, Thursday/Friday showers won’t add too much water to the snow, although we’ll have to watch the potential for Sunday. No immediate concerns as of now.
