Debris hits windshield of car in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Mass. (WHDH) - A woman driving on I-93 North Friday morning sustained facial injuries after debris hit her windshield.

"It was really scary because I was all covered in glass," said Arunima Chaudhary, who was driving to work when a heavy chunk of metal came flying through her windshield.

Chaudhary had no idea where the debris came from, that it came in diagonally. She originally thought that it was some dirty snow.

State highway officials said the chunk of metal appeared to be one of the older-style raised pavement markers used to help drivers stay in their lanes during bad weather.

The old pavement markers were installed back in the 1990s all over the country. Since then, the markers have become a problem.

“It looks like one of the plows might have dug it up,” said Bob Toussaint of A&S Towing.

Officials are now saying that the markers will be replaced.

Chaudhary declined medical attention and is counting her blessings.
