Police: Westboro man stabbed elderly mother several times

Posted: Updated:
WESTBORO, Mass. (WHDH) - A man has been charged after allegedly stabbing his elderly mother in Westboro Thursday night.

Police believe Daniel Uhlman, 44, stabbed his 72-year-old mother multiple times and fled the scene.

The woman was able to call police, who found Uhlman walking about a mile from his house covered in blood. He was arrested without incident.

Police found blood in several rooms of the house. Uhlman used four kitchen knives during the stabbing, which were found near the mother's bed. All were bent or broken and blood-soaked.

The mother was treated by paramedics and transported to UMass Medical University campus with life threatening injuries, but she's expected to recover.

"There was heavy bleeding coming from her nose and mouth and her nose appeared to be disfigured as if it were broken,” prosecuting attorney Lisa Casella said.

Uhlman has been charged with assault with intent to murder, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and mayhem. He was held on $5,000 cash bail pending his arraignment Friday.

After appearing before a judge, he is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Wednesday.

Police are still investigating the incident and what could have caused this son to stab his mother, who neighbors say was a nice woman.

Relatives said that Uhlman was troubled.

"He had issues, this Danny, for a long time and it just didn't really surprise me. I feel bad that Nancy got stabbed," Bill Ulhman, a relative of the family, said .
