Suspects arrested in death of Somerville man

SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WHDH) - A man and his son have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Somerville man whose body was found behind a Norwood middle school.

Anthony Canejo, 52, has been charged with the murder of 66-year-old Vincent Lalli, who he allegedly beat with a crowbar and strangled before dismembering the body and moving it.

Anthony Canejo Jr. was charged with accessory after the fact.

Canejo and Lalli were roommates. The murder happened days before the body was found on Jan. 29.

According to their landlord the two men argued often.

“Every time you could hear them yelling and screaming, but every time I told them to keep it down, they said it won't happen again,” she said.

According to a police report, the body was taken from Somerville and driven in the trunk of a car that was being towed to Rhode Island. The car was being towed by the suspect's son, where it made a stop in Norwood to dump the body.

Police have surveillance video that show the movement of these vehicles.

Both suspects allegedly purchased cleaning products after the murder, including paper towels and garbage bags. Canejo apparently used the trash bags to carry the body parts.

Canejo appeared before a judge in Somerville District Court on Friday and pleaded not guilty to assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, which was allegedly a crowbar.

He is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Feb. 21. He is due back in court on Feb. 28.

The younger Canejo appeared in a 2:00 p.m. session in Somerville. He is being held on $250,000 bail and is due back in court on March 28.

The investigation is still ongoing.
