Slippery roads, heavy slush during Thursday's winter storm

LAWRENCE, Mass. (WHDH) - Between the rain and the snow roads across the state turned into a slip and slide.

It was a slow go out there this evening cars really struggled to get through the slush and ice.

Even people walking had some trouble with the wet roads.

“I’m pretty sure I swam through a few puddles on my way to the gym," one woman said.

Snow turned to slush as drivers navigated through puddles that seemed more like ponds.

Early in the day heavy snow blanketed parts of the state causing trouble for drivers in Andover.

The 7News Traffic Tracker was right behind a car as it lost control and hit the guardrail before sliding back into traffic.

The roads in Worcester were especially hard hit, visibility was down and so were speeds.

Conditions were not much better along the Mass. Pike with several cars stuck on the side of the road.

In Fitchburg, mountains of snow piled up in parking lots.

A snow equipment operator had a great description for what it seemed like outside.

"Just like being in a snow globe with a little angry kid shaking it,” he said.

As midnight approached temperatures in Eastern Mass. stayed above freezing, keeping many roads from developing ice.
