Man arrested in Arlington indecent assault

Posted: Updated:
ARLINGTON, Mass (WHDH) - Police have arrested a suspect in the indecent assault of a 14-year-old student in Arlington on Tuesday.

Patrick Barry, 21, of Medford was arrested at his home Wednesday afternoon.

Arlington police responded to the intersection of Summer St. and Mill St., where the victim said she was approached from behind and touched inappropriately.

After a sketch was released by police, officials received a call from a probation officer that said a person who was already on probation and subject to GPS monitoring fit the description.

"We had a little bit of luck, a lot of hard work, but the stars were in the right lines for sure," said Arlington Police Dept.Capt. Richard Flynn.

Barry was wearing a GPS bracelet because he was out on bail. He was arrested for two knife attacks on women in Mission Hill last summer.

"He told her he was going to rape her and backed her down a side street," said prosecutor John Dawley.

Barry has been charged with indecent assault and battery on a child over 14 years of age and he may face additional charges and probation violations.

He was arraigned Friday in Cambridge District Court and is being held on $1 million bail. He is due back in court in March.
