Previous snow piles a problem for Worcester

Posted: Updated:
WORCESTER, Mass. (WHDH) - Snow was creating a slushy scene Thursday morning as students enjoyed another snow day in Worcester.

Worcester is expected to get around one-foot of snow, and resident are wondering where they're going to put all of it. Snow from the last few storms are already piled high.

Last week when it started snowing, it came fast, it came furious. This storm is expected to be an all-day event.

“It is not too bad. Not too cold. But it looks like it is going to get really bad a little bit soon. We like the snow days because of the school, but it’s a little hectic driving everywhere. It is really hard to get around. Especially through the snow,” said Catherine Ayran, enjoying the snow day.

Worcester has been one of the harder-hit areas of the state, leaving some to worry about dwindling supplies. The city had to break into its salt pile reserves for this recent storm.

Heavy snow continued through the afternoon, but tapered off into the evening. Despite the reprieve, plows and snow shovelers have a lot of work ahead of them.

Firefighters took to using snow blowers instead of hoses.

7News' Jonathan Hall measured about eight inches of snow as of 5:30 p.m. The area is expected to get a few more inches overnight.
