Shnapir and Castelli parents take in Sochi sights

Posted: Updated:
SOCHI, Russia (WHDH) - Local skaters Simon Shnapir and Marissa Castelli may currently be in ninth place, but they have the support of their families to keep them going until the last bow.

Both Simon and Marissa’s parents are in Sochi and are getting one last chance to take it all in.

“It is overwhelming… We’re somewhere in cloud nine,” said Shnapir’s father, who’s made a statement at the games by wearing a tall hat with an American flag decoration.

“We still keep pinching ourselves,” said Castelli’s mother

Shnapir’s parents moved to Sudbury from Russia 25 years ago. They’re happy to be back and are helping Castelli’s parents get around.

“It is much easier to translate for Marissa’s parents. It’s an amazing experience,” said Shnapir’s mother.

“I don't know if it's hit us. Just overlooking this beautiful village and the Olympic park and it is just amazing,” said Castelli’s mother.
