Autistic boy gets birthday wishes from across the globe

ANDOVER, Mass. (WHDH) - A young boy in Andover got more than 600 birthday wishes from across the world for his 12th birthday.

Logan Pearson has autism and his mother realized that his younger siblings were getting to celebrate their birthday but Logan's became just another day on the calendar.

“Even family members were sending birthday cards to younger two but not to Logan. We recognized that. Even though Logan may not understand, we do,” Catherine Pearson, Logan’s mom, said.

To make his birthday memorable she posted a message on Facebook asking friends to send in cards.

The cards are now coming from dozens of states and countries as far away as Romania and Amsterdam.

Catherine said within days of posting the message her mailbox was full of cards.

Logan may not be able to speak, blow out candles on a cake or open presents on his birthday, but his family now knows the world is helping him to celebrate.

“Anything we can do to get other people involved in his birthday really kind of helps fill in that sort of empty feelings you get when he can't have friends over,” Logan’s dad James Pearson said.

James and Catherine said several area police departments are organizing a birthday party for Logan, who will turn 12 on Feb. 24.
