WALTHAM, Mass. (WHDH) -
Two Waltham police officers were honored for their off-duty heroics last week when the pulled a 14-year-old girl from under a car.
Sgt. Steve Fournier and Officer Jeffrey Fogg were on a walk when they saw a young woman pulling out of a driveway hit the 18-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl.
“I think she panicked. She accelerated instead of hitting the brake,” Fournier said.
The 18-year-old flew off to the side. But the little girl was dragged under the car all the way across the street.
"I can't believe that we're here today and we think there's going to be a good outcome for her. And to my surprise I had a conversation with her. I'll keep that between me and her. But I was very surprised that she was in the condition that she was in and able to have a conversation with me,” Fogg said.
Both victims were taken to the hospital.
Many people believe if it wasn't for two of the city's finest, the little girl would not be alive today.
