Police officer hit by car in Salem N.H.

SALEM, N.H. (WHDH) - A New Hampshire police officer was hit by a car and hospitalized Monday.

Police say David Babcock stopped at a house in Salem and asked for directions. The homeowner then called police saying Babcock appeared drunk and had a child in his vehicle.

Investigators say two officers pulled Babcock over, but when they got out of the car the he pulled a u-turn and hit one of the officers.

The driver sped away, but was caught and arrested in Lowell. He was caught after the chase lead down a dead end road.

He will face charges in New Hampshire once a separate case is resolved in Massachusetts.

The injured officer has been released from the hospital.
