Woman hit by MBTA bus in Dorchester

Posted: Updated:
DORCHESTER, Mass. (WHDH) -
An accident in Dorchester sent a woman in her 70's to the hospital, investigators say she was hit in the crosswalk by an MBTA bus.

The driver allegedly told police that he did not see her and that passengers had to tell him he hit someone.

The accident happened around 11:35 Monday morning.

The victim was taken from the scene in an ambulance to Boston Medical Center with very serious injuries.

Neighbors say people say drivers come through the intersection too fast and buses often don’t stop for pedestrians.

The scene was active for most of Monday afternoon while officials reconstructed the crash. Pictures show an MBTA bus pulled over to the side of the road, surrounded by yellow police tape.

The 32-year-old driver has been driving a bus for more than a decade, and has only one preventable crash on his record, in 2005. The investigation will include a look at his phone records and a drug and alcohol screening.

The woman was in the hospital Monday night, listed in critical condition. No charges have been filed against the driver, but the investigation is still continuing.
