Well, winter certainly still has New England in it’s grip as temperatures this morning start in the single digits in the burbs and teens in the city of Boston.  While we’re nowhere near record cold, we will be below seasonal levels by a handful of degrees this weekend as high temperatures run near 30 degrees.  We’ll have a slight breeze today, with light winds expected tomorrow.  Overall, little snow melting is expected this weekend, and that works out just fine for skiers and sledders across New England.

What about adding some natural snow?  I don’t expect much during the daylight hours this weekend.  There may be a passing flurry tonight and a few ocean effect snow showers across the Cape tomorrow, but in terms of steadier snow, any chance of that holds off until Sunday evening.

Sunday evening, we’ll track a wave of low pressure riding in from the west that’ll spread some light snow in here after sunset Sunday, and periodically overnight.  A coating to a couple inches of snow is likely by predawn Monday, meaning you may need a few extra minutes Monday morning to dust of the car before heading to work.  It’s not out of the question that a bit more snow falls across the area if there’s more moisture to work with, but at this point, an overall minor event is expected.  Along with needing to dust off the car, leftover slick spots are also possible for the Monday AM commute.  If we were looking for another major event, we’d need the energy from this low to combine with an area of low pressure that’s off the coast.  That won’t be the case as the ocean low stays too far out to sea.

The week remains relatively cold and quiet from Monday afternoon, through Wednesday, before the next potential storm rolls in Thursday.  This storm will have more moisture with it, as it moves up the East Coast and spreads some snow, increasing northeast breezes and perhaps a bit of coastal rain in here.  Track, intensity, snow amounts and any rain/snow lines are too early to discuss as there are plenty of details to be ironed out the next few days.

Enjoy the weekend and enjoy the Olympics!
