Woman refuses to pay expensive cab ride from NYC to Framingham

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (WHDH) - It might seem normal to take a cab ride home from the airport, but what about when that airport is in New York City and you can’t pay?

One Framingham woman found out exactly what happened this week when she told the driver she didn’t have the $860 fare she owed him.

“She had no intentions on paying she didn't have any money at all,” Framingham Police Sgt. Michael Esposito said.

Police say 31-year-old Denise Rebelato hailed the cab in New York after returning from brazil and got the cab driver to drive her the more than 195 miles to her home in Framingham.

After spending about 10 minutes inside she went back to the driver and told him she couldn't pay that's when he drove her right to the police department.

That’s when she was placed under arrest for larceny.

“It’s a huge amount of money, $860, I could have flown to somewhere in Europe for that kind of money,” Esposito said.

The woman was arraigned Thursday morning, the judge reportedly told her that as long as she paid the fare all of the charges would be dropped.
