Georgia man charged in 40-year-old Shrewsbury murder

Posted: Updated:
WORCESTER, Mass. (WHDH) - A man from Georgia has been arrested in the murder of a 21-year-old Shrewsbury woman back in 1974.

DNA evidence linked the former furniture mover, Lonzo Guthrie, to the murder of Eileen Ferro.

Previous evidence couldn't link him to the crime, but thanks to DNA testing, the case was solved.

“We wanted justice for Eileen Ferro and, after all these years, closure for her family,” District Attorney Joseph Early said in a press conference on Thursday.

According to police, Guthrie, who lived in Worcester at the time, allegedly delivered furniture to the victim's home the day before the killing.

Ferro's body was found in a spare bedroom of the home she shared with her husband.
