In 2010, the Opening Ceremony in Vancouver, Canada was held indoors for the first time in Olympic history. A shadow was cast over the Ceremony however, when Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili died after crashing during a practice run. The Opening Ceremony of the 21st Olympic Winter Games, which was dedicated to the fallen athlete, took place later that day.
