7's Nancy Chen explores the Olympic Village

SOCHI, Russia (WHDH) -

The Olympics are separated into two areas - the coastal cluster and the mountain cluster. And visitors can go in between them by either going in their car or do what we're doing and going by train on a newly constructed railway.

In Krasnya Polyana, Rosa Khutor is known as the gateway to the mountains. This is where all of the ski and sliding sports will take place during the Olympics. Now a lot has been said about how warm Sochi is, but this is where all the cold is.

The reason why Rosa Khutor is called the gateway to the mountains is because you can take rides in cable cars to all the venues that will be hosting athletes from around the world.

7’s Nancy Chen said it’s very new and it basically popped up overnight just in time for the Olympics.

You can find almost anything you want. There are stores selling clothing, there are supermarkets and just in case it's not cold enough for you, there's a Baskin Robbins.

The coastal cluster is hosting all the ice events. These Olympics are being hailed as the most compact ever, when it comes to space. The park includes five ice sport venues, including the Bolshoy, one of two spaces to host the hockey games. The design is modeled after a frozen drop.

Finally, there's the Fisht Olympic Stadium, named for one of the most famous mountains in Russia. This will host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Its transparent roof will let spectators inside see the entire mountain from foot to peak.
