FITCHBURG, Mass. (WHDH) - Police in Fitchburg are investigating a sexual assault that reportedly occurred early Sunday morning.

7News was the first station to report that three Fitchburg State University hockey players had been suspended for the alleged assault, which occurred the night of a home hockey game.

"I don’t really personally know any of the hockey players, but I feel like the kind of have a reputation," Megan Killion, a student at FSU said.

University officials released a statement about the assaults and their involvement.

"The individuals named in the police investigation have been restricted from all activities connected with Fitchburg State University and are barred from the campus, including classes and athletics," the statement said.

School leaders said this was an off-campus incident, they are cooperating with police and the accused students could face permanent dismissal.

As of Tuesday night there have been no charges or arrests in the investigation.
