Dad 2.0 Summit discusses changing portrayals of dads in media

Posted: Updated:
UNDATED (NBC) - When you turn on your TV, dads are often portrayed without a lot of respect. Now there's a group of dads who are trying to change that story line.

The Dad 2.0 Summit, a conference of dad bloggers and media executives in New Orleans hosted by Dove, spoke about why dads look the way they do on television.

"I think what was acceptable and what would get by 10 years ago doesn't anymore," said Jason Katims, the executive producer on “Parenthood.”

Brad Goodchild is a father of three who makes his kids’ lunch. He said that most media portrayals of fathers are “unrealistic.”

"You know, we're not all out there driving Ford F-150's and running around in the mud and only watching football all the time. That's just not realistic,” Goodchild said.

Is the “foolish bumbling dad” on the way out?
