Residents of Back Bay building look to what's next

BOSTON (WHDH) - Residents of the Back Bay apartment building that caught fire on Saturday now have to find a new place to live.

The flames from the seven-alarm fire destroyed parts of the 5th and 6th floors. The others were damages by smoke and water.

The building was deemed unsafe due to the damge. There is also no power, and therefore, no fire alarms.

Amy Kantor, who lived on the first floor, can't go back to her apartment, as it bared the brunt of the water damage from the apartments above.

"I don't know where to live now. I'm going to live at my parent's house and figure it all out," Kantor said.

Residents will now how to go through the condo association and their landlords to make arrangements to get their personal items out.

According to investigators, the fire was caused by improper disposal of smoking material, or a flicked cigarette.

Officials said the building sustained abut $2.5 million in damage.
