Jimmy Fund Snow Challenge raises thousands for cancer research
WESTFORD, Mass. (WHDH) -
The 19th annual Jimmy Fund Snow Challenge held at the Nashoba Valley Ski Area on Saturday raised thousands for cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Teams of skiers and snowboarders race to raise money to fight cancer.
Officials said that they raised between $30,000 and $50,000 at the event.
The event is hosted by Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) of Waltham.
"They've made some really great progress in the last couple of years. What the doctors will tell you, and what the fundraisers will tell you, is that years ago, the most they could do was make people more comfortable. Today they are actually curing cancer," said Mike Antoniazzi of CSC.
Dana-Farber patient Jack Whelan was the event’s featured speaker. The 66-year-old Andover resident was diagnosed with Waldenström macroglobulinemia in 2006.
