BARNSTABLE, Mass. (WHDH) - Police arrested a wanted man in Barnstable Friday night after a two and a half hour chase through a small, residential neighborhood.

John Lopes, 26, of Mashpee had six outstanding arrests on various charges including trafficking cocaine and assault and battery on a police officer.

Lopes had been in hiding since October 2012 and never stayed in the same place for long.

Police received word that Lopes was in the area of Center Street and tracked him down in a vehicle. When officials attempted to pull him over, Lopes fled on foot into a residential neighborhood.

Police established a perimeter, but Lopes was able to elude police and K-9 units for over two and a half hours.

A Yarmouth K-9 officer was finally able to locate Lopes hiding in some shrubs. He was arrested and transported to the Barnstable Police Department.

He will be arraigned in Barnstable District on Monday. In addition to the warrants and marijuana charges, Lopes will also be charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
