Local man says cruise crew tried to prevent illness
NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WHDH) -
A cruise ship is back in port after 700 people on board got sick.
One of the customers who came down with the illness was Daniel Boutin from North Attleboro.
He said he was quarantined for a few days, but his wife managed to stay healthy.
He also said the crew did everything they could to prevent the spread of the virus.
"They had people actually serving food where you couldn’t tough it yourself. In the dining room at night they took the salt and pepper shakers off the table. I was amazed. The CDC said that the ship was 98 percent in compliance with the CDC rules. They said ships never score this high,” Boutin said.
According to the CDC 630 passengers and 54 crew members fell ill.
If tests confirm it was the norovirus, it could be one of the largest outbreaks in 20 years.
