Wareham teen arrested for shooting boy with BB gun

WAREHAM, Mass. (WHDH) - A Wareham 16-year-old is facing charges after allegedly firing a BB gun at a six-year-old boy.

The young boy was shot in his left shoulder while he was playing the backyard of his home with his cousin.

He was transported to Tobey Hospital, then transferred to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Rhode Island after it was discovered the imbedded pellet moved from his shoulder into his arm.

An investigation revealed that the teenager deliberately shot his neighbor.

"It's very unusual to find out it was a deliberate act," said Chief Kevin Walsh.

Police recovered two airsoft rifles and pellets from the teen's home.

The 16-year-old was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and minor discharging a BB gun.

The six-year-old returned home after being treated. He still has the pellet in his arm, but doctors are planning to remove it. He's expected to be okay.

Carol Carduff, the grandmother of the boy, still can't believe that the incident happened.

"Why would someone want to hurt a six-year-old boy?" said Carduff.
