Arrest made in Quincy pizza shop robbery

QUINCY, Mass. (WHDH) -

In Quincy, there was a major break in an armed robbery involving a masked man with a pickaxe.

John Waschela was arrested Wednesday.

The alleged robber threatened employees and plunged a pickax into the wall at Domino’s Pizza in Quincy.

“He asked for the money. I was like, ‘this is a prank. I was like, no, I'm not giving you the money.’ He was like ‘seriously, give me all the money.’ I was like, ‘I'm seriously going to call the cops,’” said the Domino’s clerk who wished to remain anonymous.

Police said it was a tip that led to the arrest, and they said the suspect made it pretty easy for them to find him.

“We got a tip that he was at Quincy hospital. We had a warrant for his arrest. He was up there for a medical condition. We went up there, sure enough, he was there,” said Capt. John Duggan of the Quincy Police Dept.

According to investigators, Waschela found the pickaxe inside a car he stole, along with the respirator mask.

“He was like, ‘seriously, give me all your money and no one is going to get hurt.’ And he was closer to one of my drivers who is also a close friend of mine, so I told him, ‘okay, well, you can have the money,’” said the Domino’s clerk.

Officers said Waschela made it easy for them to find him.

“They located the vehicle which was exactly in front of the suspect's house. So apparently he stole the car, went and robbed Domino's, then returned to his home on Skyline Drive. Not very smart,” said Duggan.

The pickaxe and the mask belonged to the owner of the stolen car. The owner, a female, uses them for masonry work.

Waschela will be arraigned sometime Wednesday afternoon.
