Jurors visit apartment where woman was killed, unborn baby stolen

WORCESTER, Mass. (WHDH) – - On the second day of testimony jurors went to the apartment where Darlene Haynes was murdered and her baby cut out of her womb.

Prosecutors are trying to convince the jury that Julie Corey committed the crime while defense attorneys are arguing that someone else committed the murder.

The jury was shown the apartment where the murder allegedly happened, they also visited the apartment where Haynes boyfriend at the time and her baby’s father lived, a cemetery and a convenience store where the baby’s father was seen.

The trip was all part of the defense’s plan to pin the murder on anyone but Corey.

In the courtroom prosecutors played surveillance video they say shows Corey driving Haynes to a liquor store the night of the murder; but defense attorneys say that isn’t evidence to link her to the crime.

Haynes’ father Fred Haynes was in the courtroom where he sat in the front row.

“My feeling is I know she did it. It’s sad because you go everyday wondering what’s going on,” Fred Haynes said.

Fred Haynes never got to meet his now 4 and a half year old granddaughter who is know in the custody of her father.

“I try not to think, because the more I think the more I hurt inside,” Fred Haynes said.

The child’s father is expected to be called as a witness in the coming days.
