Man uses pickaxe as weapon during Quincy robbery

Posted: Updated:
A man in Quincy went after some quick cash by robbing the Domino’s, but the weapon he used was bigger than expected.

According to police the suspect went in to the pizza shop at 1 a.m. Sunday and asked for the cashier to open the drawer while wielding a pickaxe.

When the cashier wouldn’t open the drawer the suspect hit the wall with his weapon before trying to open the drawer himself.

Surveillance video shows the suspect go to the back of the store and get the employee who eventually opened the drawer.

The suspect was able to make off with the entire drawer, but before fleeing he dropped some cash and the pickaxe in the parking lot.

“For the employees I'm sure this is pretty scary. It looks like something out of horror movie,” Peter Karapatsas, a customer, said.

The employee was able to call police from his cell phone while the suspect was in the store.

Police say the pickaxe and mask were taken from a stolen car. The owner of the car is not being charged.

The suspect is 6 feet 2 inches tall with blue or green eyes. Police said they believe they know who the man is but have not made an arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Quincy Police Department at (617) 479-1212.
