BOSTON (WHDH) -
Mayor Marty Walsh has paid off his bet from the AFC Championship Game.
It was all in good fun, but the bet had some serious consequences. Because of the Patriots loss to the Broncos Walsh had to send books signed by their Boston authors to the Denver Public Library, several pounds of chocolate turtles from Phillips Candy House in Dorchester and, perhaps most embarassing for the new mayor, he had to wear a Peyton Manning Super Bowl jersey for a day.
“It's a little embarrassing, if you're the mayor of Boston, but if you make the bet, you have to stick to it,” one fan said.
He tweeted out pictures Monday wearing the bright orange jersey in City Hall.
He called Denver Mayor Michael Hancock to congratulate him and tell him the debt has been paid. The Denver mayor tweeted back "A man of your word and a good sport."
