Lancaster pastor on leave after sexual misconduct allegations
LANCASTER, Mass. (WHDH) -- -
A local priest has been placed on administrative leave after accusations that he had sex with a minor.
The incident happened around 40 years ago. The victim just came forward with the allegations.
Father Edward Lettic, who has been a priest with the Diocese of Worcester since 1973, has been relieved of his duties as pastor at the Immaculate Conception in Lancaster.
Reverend Robert McManus made the announcement at mass Sunday morning.
"It is the first and only report of an allegation of misconduct which we have received involving Father Lettic,” McManus said.
“I truly realize that this news is a shock for you as it has been for me. I ask that you join me in prayer for the parish community, as well as for those who have been hurt in any way by sexual misconduct. I also ask that you keep Father Lettic in your prayers,” McManus also said.
If found guilty, Father Lettic could get removed from the clerical state or could receive a sanction such as a life of prayer and penance.
