Cold weather causes water main breaks across Mass.

A broken water main his disrupted water service for some in Somerville, the likely cause; cold weather.

Residents who are without water said it has been forcing them to change their routines.

"It's real fun to come home and find out you have no water so it was pretty bummer situation. It's pretty aggravating i love coffee can't make my coffee, can't cook, can't do laundry all the little things you take for granted," Emma Donnelly said.

The low temperatures caused issues in other parts of eastern Mass. as well.

In Milton a water main burst on Blue Hills Parkway causing traffic issues as detours were established and a cracked pipe in Newton caused similar issues.

The Barking Crab restaurant in Boston is also closed because of their frozen pipes.

The main in Somerville is more than 100 years old. Crews have already made several repairs to the pipe but every time they think they’re done another leak springs up.

Crews will be working in the area will into Friday night, trying to restore service for the first time in 24 hours.
