WELLESLEY, Mass. (WHDH) -
Just after 8 a.m. Friday, Babson College tweeted that a suspicious device was being investigated. The device was found near Babson Executive Conference Center. Babson and Wellesley police were on scene.
Officials later gave the all clear on campus by early Friday afternoon.
Just before 11 a.m. the state police bomb squad used a robot for a controlled detonation of the device and then gave the all clear on campus. State police set up sandbags and used the robot to try and figure out what the device was.
A maintenance worker found the device on the sidewalk by the Babson Executive Conference Center and officers checked it out and determined it to be suspicious. The police chief said it looked like a plumbing device with a piece of copper tubing sticking out of it.
The campus never received any threatening calls, no one was evacuated and the situation did not affect classes.
