Frigid air causes disabled, delayed trains

QUINCY, Mass. (WHDH) -

Several lines of the T have been delayed due to yesterday’s cold. Amtrak is already planning on service adjustments for Friday.

On Thursday there were at least five disabled subway trains on the red line during rush hour because of the cold air. If you plan to take the subway, it could happen again Friday morning, 7News’ Nicole Oliverio reports.

It wasn't just the red line, the green line also had disabled trains. The commuter rail and even Amtrak had many delays, though most of the delays were moderate and blamed the effects of the cold temperatures on the trains' aging equipment.

Amtrak’s Acela Express and regional lines will operate on a modified schedule because of the cold temperatures, Amtrak said in a statement. They're telling passengers they need to expect reduced frequencies and plan for the possibilities of delays.
