Two accused of extortion in fake kidnapping case

Posted: Updated:
Two people from Springfield are accused of extorting a woman from Revere.

According to police Jose Parasail called the Revere woman and said her daughter had been in an accident and would be killed of the victim did’t send them $1,000.

Prosecutors say Parasail and Jennifer Rodriguez picked up the money.

Investigators believe the duo may be connected to other similar crimes.

"Whether these defendants were acting alone or as part of a larger enterprise, they followed a pattern we've seen several times over the past few years. The caller says a family member is hurt, in jail, or being held captive. The caller sometimes has general information such as name, age, and residence that can appear convincing to a panicked relative, but could easily have come from social media websites such as Facebook,” Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Coney said.

Both defendants were ordered held on $5,000 bail.
