Police looking for older woman who stole tablet at Panera

Posted: Updated:
An older woman was caught on tape stealing a tablet from inside a Panera Bread and police are looking for the public’s help tracking her down.

The video shows an older couple at the restaurant. A younger woman they are with points out the tablet sitting on a window sill and then the older woman calmly walks over and places it under the table before eventually putting it in her bag.

“Criminals just do stuff like that. It’s kind of natural for them to do things like that. We’re not like that. If you’re a good person you would feel bad and you’d be really nervous. For them it’s just kind of natural,” Burlington Police Lt. Glen Mills said.

The $500 Samsung tablet was left there in its Vera Bradley case back in September. The woman who left it there has been working with police and Panera to get the video and now it has been released to the public.

The victim and police said they expected to see a teenager

“Most of the people that we catch committing crimes are younger. It’s something most people grow out of as they get older. They usually know better when they get older,” Mills said.

The victim said she lives in Connecticut and can’t afford to replace the stolen tablet.
