Mayor Walsh declares snow emergency for Boston

Posted: Updated:
Mayor Marty Walsh may be just 12 days into his administration, but he’s already holding a press conference about snow.

Mayor Walsh spoke to the media on Tuesday, declaring a snow emergency and a parking ban for Boston starting at 6:00 p.m.

“Our team is ready for tonight’s storm and we have a good plan in place,” Mayor Walsh said.

This comes after the National Weather Service declared a winter weather warning for Boston.

Even though the ban starts at 6:00, drivers will have until 8:00 p.m. to move their cars before tow trucks start coming.

Discounted parking, which started at 4:00 p.m., is available at several parking lots and garages to cars that display Boston resident parking stickers.

Walsh is taking this storm seriously, canceling his trip to Washington.

“It's important for me to be in the city of Boston during this time. You know, something goes wrong I need to be here for it, so what I did is play it safe. I canceled the entire trip,” Walsh said.

Boston Public Schools have canceled afternoon activities on Tuesday and announced that schools will be closed Wednesday.
