Man wanted for several Easton break-ins

Posted: Updated:
Police in southeastern Mass. are looking for the man they believe broke into several stores.

The man was able to get away with several hundred dollars from the White Rose Pantry in Easton, but he wasn’t as successful everywhere.

Nick Gavrielidis, owner of Sophie’s Pizza, said the thief was trying to get in when a delivery driver arrived.

“He used a hammer with a rubber wedge to try to open the door. In the meantime my bread man came in and scared him away,” Gavrielidis said.

At the White Rose Pantry the thief got in through the back door, and had opened the register and left again all in about 20 seconds.

“At 3 a.m. David, my employee who opens the store, gives me a call and says ‘Joseph, someone was in the store. The alarm is off, the registers are open, there’s no money in the registers,” Joseph Marawi, owner of White Rose Pantry, said.

Police said the quick entry and get away shows that the thief is probably experienced.

At least four other stores reported similar break-ins or attempts within the past week. All of them occurring overnight.

“Thanks god it wasn’t a robbery, it was a break-in so no one was in the store, no one got hurt,” Marawi said.

New security cameras have been installed at the White Rose Pantry in hopes of discouraging anyone who might be trying to gain access or rob the store.
