FRANKLIN, Mass. (WHDH) – - A crowd filled Franklin’s town common Friday night gathering to mourn the deaths of Lexi and Sean Munroe.

Investigators say the 7 and 8-year-olds died Sunday after getting trapped in a Hope Chest while playing.

“My heart breaks it really does. I couldn't imagine being in their shoes right now, they’re a wonderful family and it’s just a tragic accident,” vigil organizer Jen Gouthro said.

Many family members attended the vigil, wearing the pain of their loss on their faces. Together they solemnly released a pair of glowing lanterns to honor the two children.

Dozens of children at the ceremony also released balloons and watched as they floated away into the night sky.

“It was important for us, also important to support the family in the tragic time they’re going through,” Tom Lennon said.

With music and candlelight the group of hundreds lit up the night sky brightening everyone's heart just a bit during this dark time that was felt throughout the community.
