Obama's Budget Speech

Posted: Updated:
But, this time, I'm afraid the President's words will become "just words"...lost in the deep divide between political parties.

Because, once again, the President contradicted himself, and was short on specifics.

For example, he said Republicans and Democrats must come together, but then he accused Republicans of wanting to end America as we know it.

To me, that sounds a lot more like a campaign speech than a call for cooperation.

And two years after he took office, he still blames his predecessor, George Bush, for the nation's financial problems.

As Obama sees it, Washington "lost its way"...when Bush took on two wars; a new drug prescription program  and supported tax cuts for the rich...which Obama said today he will not renew.

All of which is virtually sure to keep Republicans -- literally -- fighting mad.

Which is not what America needs.

The President is correct: there are two competing (and very different) visions for America in the future.

There's the Democrats' "tax and spend" and the Republicans' "cut and end."

Ultimately, one will prevail.

But not today, and probably not until after the election next year.

I'm Andy Hiller, and that's my instinct.
