We should all feel pride today. And it shouldn't be diminished by arguments about who deserves credit for what, or by anyone yelling, "Show me the pictures."
Osama bin Laden is dead. And until you show me a picture of him holding a newspaper dated after Sunday, you can't convince me that he's alive.
The demise of our mortal enemy is cause for celebration, because his life was dedicated to our death.
While the way bin Laden died may represent the crudest form of justice, it is just.
We shouldn't miss this moment before it passes. And it will.
Before you know it, President Barack Obama's soaring popularity will plummet, as the economy reclaims our attention.
You may not remember how popular former Governor Michael Dukakis (and his sweater) were after he led the state through the Blizzard of 1978… but he still lost an election that year.
And you may remember how popular former President George H.W. Bush was during Operation Desert Storm in 1990… but he, too, lost his bid for re-election.
So there will be a presidential race in 2012, and I bet that next November—it will be close.
How about this? Tomorrow we'll argue, and be red or blue. But today, let's just be red, white and blue.
