Warren's political debut

Posted: Updated:

Elizabeth Warren was like Mitt Romney and Rick Perry combined at a Republican debate--every eye was on her.

So the challenge for the five other Democrats on the stage was to level the playing field.

Alan Khazei, who has compared Warren's candidacy to a coronation, went after her gently:

"The first thing I would do is ask President Obama to appoint Elizabeth Warren to run the Consumer Agency."

But Bob Massie went at her hard:

"If Alan Khazei and I can reject PAC money, I would ask everyone here, especially Prof. Warren, to reject PAC money. It is part of the process!"

Warren was poised and professorial, and stressed her strength when talking about taking on Wall Street:

"Quite frankly, that's what I think you have to do. You have to be willing to take the fight to Wall Street and to Washington, you have to be willing to stand up for middle class families.”

And she flashed a sense of humor when asked what super hero she'd be:

"I'm going for Wonder Woman," said Warren.

Elizabeth Warren was impressive, but she wasn't Wonder Woman tonight.

Given her build-up and rollout, that makes her the loser to me. She simply wasn't the star of the show.

I know she's the favorite, and I know she may win, but, first, there is going to be a campaign.
