There are two Americas

Posted: Updated:

Last night, it was President Obama:

"We've lost our ambition, our imagination, and our willingness to do the things that built the Golden Gate Bridge and the Hoover Dam and unleashed all the potential in this country.”

I hope the President is wrong, because if he's right, we're cooked. But I do understand his point, and it's the point that will determine whether he wins re-election.

Ambitious people have goals; imaginative people have ideas. They may be motivated by dreams of wealth, or power, but more than likely they believe they can make their dreams come true.

I don't think they think they need the government to guarantee their success, or believe that's even possible, but there are millions of Americans who must.

Look at these numbers:

Nearly half of all Americans, 48.5 percent, lived in a household that received some type of government benefit last year.

Meanwhile, 47 percent of Americans do not pay federal income tax.

There are two Americas. But it's not the rich and the poor, it's the people who are paying the government's bills, and the people whose bills the government is paying.

If you think Washington needs to do even more (which means spend more), then I think you'll be voting for Barack Obama.

And if you think government should downsize next November, then I'm putting you down as a Republican vote.

Yes, there will be exceptions, but not too many.
