FITCHBURG, Mass. (WHDH) — Police said a Fitchburg man stabbed a social worker who was trying to help him. The social worker needed nearly two dozen stitches in his face.
Police said Keyon Johnston, 31, attacked a Community Healthlink mental worker without warning while the worker was driving Johnston home.
“He did allegedly slice him with some sort of an instrument and it caused him to be injured to the point where it took at least 22 stitches in his face,” said Sgt. Glen Fossa of the Fitchburg police department.
The victim knew the police station was nearby and ran to it.
“Mr. Scott presented himself into the lobby, was bleeding significantly from the wound and there was blood on the floor,” said Fossa.
The police report states Johnston said he stabbed the victim for “lying” to him and failing to do what he promised to do, including bringing Nicorette gum.
Community Healthlink, which is based in Worcester, released the following statement: “The staff member was treated in an area hospital and released Wednesday evening. He is recovering at home.”
Johnston was ordered held without bail. He will return to court on Aug. 22 for a dangerousness hearing.
