ORANGE, Mass. (AP) — The director of an Orange youth soccer organization has been charged with embezzling thousands of dollars in player registration fees and donations.
Jason Vautour of the Orange Recreation Association was released on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty to larceny over $250 by embezzlement and witness intimidation.
Police Chief Robert Haigh Jr. tells The Recorder of Greenfield that more than $45,000 had gone into and out of a checking account opened by Vautour in 2009.
Haigh says while many of the transactions appear to be legitimate, some are questionable and include debit card purchases at restaurants, bars, liquor stores and gas stations.
Haigh alleges Vautour also used $3,000 of association money for a down payment on a Humvee for himself.
