LUNENBURG, Mass. (WHDH) — One day after police in Lunenburg cleared to football team of racism against a teammate, they searched the house where racially charged graffiti was found in November.

State and local police served a search warrant at the home of Isaac Phillips, where they spent about an hour.

After their search police were seen leaving the house carrying something in a brown paper bag.

Police wouldn’t call the item in the bag evidence, but their investigation into the incident continues.

Phillips’ parents are no longer cooperating with police and refuse to comment to the media on the investigation.

The police investigation originally focused on high school football players as suspects. However, the students were all cleared and police turned their attention to the Phillips' house, showing up to serve a search warrant and leaving with a brown paper bag.

Phillip's son Isaac was a player on the football team and after the family called police to report the graffiti, the school district canceled the football season. The town held a candlelight vigil vowing racism has no place in Lunenburg. Isaac Phillips transferred to a different school and the team was blamed.

“People were saying we shouldn't have this season, we're all bullies and racists. It’s been a rough couple weeks,” said Cam Landers, varsity football player.

Lunenburg police say they are close to an arrest.

“I love my family. I'm going to stand by my family but I like the truth,” said James Phillips, Isaac’s grandfather.

Lunenburg police say they continue to work with the FBI, and that a group of parents came to the police station on Tuesday to sit down with the police chief and talk about ways to heal the community and move forward.
