WORCESTER, Mass. (WHDH) — When a young autistic boy’s iPad was stolen recently his family was devastated, but now a pair of good Samaritans has stepped in to help them out.
They might not be Santa Claus, but Joe Provost and George Champey are the most important men in the world to 4-year-old Naiden Diaz and his family.
The two men saw the story Monday on WHDH about how two women stole an iPad that was used by help Naiden communicate and they wanted to help.
“You’re so welcome. You have a nice Christmas and now you’ll be ok,” Champey said when Naiden thanked him.
Champey, who has two autistic boys of his own, replaced the boy’s iPad; Provost gave the family a check to help them out.
“It's baffling, I was really down. I was thinking ‘wow, this world is getting worse’ but I was completely wrong,” Sailin Diaz, Naiden’s mother, said.
Police are still investigating the crime, but for now the Diaz family says they’re just happy for the goodwill of strangers.
“Especially for Christmas we don’t have to struggle for extra cash or anything like that to replace the iPad. It’s really amazing, I didn't think people like this existed,” Nick Diaz, Naiden’s father, said.
