PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The president of the Providence City Council wants to require age verification checks for strip club employees after a missing 15-year-old Boston girl was found dancing at a city club.

Michael Solomon said Thursday he will introduce a proposed ordinance that would require strip club owners to conduct background checks to ensure new dancers are at least 18. State law bars minors from working at adult clubs.

Last week, police found the underage girl dancing at Cheater's Gentlemen's Club during an investigation into the trafficking of young girls from Massachusetts to Providence to work as strippers and prostitutes.

A representative of Cheaters says the girl had presented identification that said she was 21.
