SHELTON, Conn. (WHDH) — A Cumberland Farms clerk tried to stop someone from stealing a David Hasselhoff cutouts and was hurt in the process.

Police are reviewing surveillance video from a camera at the store n Shelton, Connecticut.

They said the clerk somehow got hooked to the SUV as it drove away with the signs.

He ended up flipping backwards, falling on his head, and was taken to the hospital.

"I'm shocked, I'm so surprised. This is usually a very safe area. I feel terrible for the man,” said Shelton resident Bobbi Smith.

"I wouldn't put my life on the line for David Hasselhoff cutouts. I didn't like him that much when he was an actor, never mind a cutout,” said Bert Ferriaolo, of East Haven.

Police have witnesses who were at the scene at 1:15 in the morning.

They are looking for two men and a woman who fled in a black SUV.
