PORTLAND, Conn. (AP) — Police say a car crash in Connecticut has killed four people, including three from Massachusetts, and critically injured a fifth.

Sgt. Scott Cunningham tells The Associated Press that the crash occurred at 2:45 a.m. Saturday in Portland. Police tell WVIT-TV that the car slammed into a metal guardrail and spun out of control at the corner of two roads.

The station reports that the dead include 24-year-old Pedro Duprey, 42-year-old Ivette Amaro and 20-year-old Andrea Caraballo, all from Springfield, Mass.. Thirty-year-old Ramon Ruiz of Hartford. also was killed.

Eighteen-year-old Juniarys Caraballo, of Springfield, is in critical condition.

Neighbors tell the station that the stretch of road where the accident occurred is dangerous and that it isn't the first crash they've seen there.

Cunningham says investigators are trying to determine whether speed was a factor in the crash.
